I am an ecologist who is interested in what controls diversity, which makes me a "community ecologist". I work in two very different systems. First, I study the food webs that occur inside the water-filled leaves of carnivorous pitcher plants, where mosquitoes eat protozoa that eat bacteria that eat dead bugs. Second, I study the vegetation on barrier islands, mostly St. George Island southwest of Tallahassee, where we study the effects of climate, such as hurricanes.
