
Bobbie Cates Hicks Science and Medicine Academic Research Training (SMART) Program
The Bobbie Cates Hicks Science and Medicine Academic Research Training (SMART) program allows high school seniors interested in careers in medicine, research, or biomedical engineering to participate in intensive research projects at LSU Health Shreveport. Students work under the guidance of basic science faculty and staff, gain experience with advanced laboratory instrumentation, and can earn science credit.

Eligibility
Open to seniors who have completed biology, chemistry, and physics (or are enrolled in AP courses of these), have an ACT score of 28+ (composite or science), and have grades of A or B in all science coursework. Must be a student in the Bossier, Caddo, or DeSoto Parish School systems.
