Step Up to STEM is an interactive, interdisciplinary academic summer program for current eighth-grade students residing in North Carolina. It challenges talented rising ninth- and 10th-graders with real-world STEM subjects to build skills in STEM and communications. Completed programs offer a pathway for students to return for a second summer.

Eligibility
Must be a resident of North Carolina currently in eighth grade. Students must live in specific NC counties depending on the chosen host site (ECSU, NCSSM-Durham, or UNC Pembroke). Cohort 1 is only for current eighth graders; Cohort 2 is only for those who completed Cohort 1.
