Pine Shell (Araucaria Angustifolia) as a reducer and stabilizer agent to obtain silver nanoparticles in a sustainable way

This work aims to develop a green method for Silver Nanoparticles (NPsAg) synthesis using raw pinion shell extract. Metallic nanoparticles, including silver ones, are particles that have diverse properties, such as high proportion between surface area and volume and higher reactivity. The NPsAg stand out for exhibiting important properties, such as antimicrobial activity, and a large application field, like in water treatment, among others. The methods of nanoparticle synthesis usually employ agressives reducing and stabilizing agents, such as sodium borohydride and hydrazine. As a result, many studies of green synthesis have been developed using plant extracts rich in phenolic compounds and ascorbic acid, which promote the reduction and stabilization of nanoparticles. These researches corroborate with our proposal, which aims to use pinion shell extract, rich in phenolic compounds, for the synthesis of NPsAg. The pinion shell compounds were extracted using non-toxic solvents such as water and ethanol in different concentrations, temperatures and pH values. After, qualitative tests of phenolic compounds were performed and one of the extracts was used to obtain the nanoparticles using silver nitrate at pH eight as the precursor salt. Characterization tests will still be performed to prove the formation and stabilization of silver nanoparticles.
