The Correlation between Mental health and Personality in Teenagers

According to the organization Mental Health of America, “This year, the 2023 survey found that 11.5% of youth reported severe major depression.” A necessity addressing mental health has arisen just within the past few years as researchers reveal the alarming statistics of mental illnesses in teenagers. This study uses a survey testing method to display how different personality traits affect the rate of mental health in high school students. The survey (n=50) shows a significant increase in the mental illness rate of high school students through the extensive correlation analysis who exhibited the personality traits of conscientiousness and neuroticism. However, the traits of extraversion, agreeableness, and openness demonstrated a correlation through a decrease ( r= -0.64) in the rate of mental illness.
