Syntactic foams are composite materials filled with glass microspheres. Thanks to their low density and high resistance they are widely used in aquatic vehicles such as submarines or underwater drones. Underwater the foams are subject to an ageing mechanism because of the pressure. How does the marine environment impact the buoyancy of a submarine through its effects on syntactic foams?
